7 Important Reasons Why We Should Set Goals

7 Important Reasons Why We Should Set Goals

  • "The problem with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running and never scoring." - Bill Copeland

  • "You need a plan to build a house. To build a life, it is even more important to have a plan or goal. - Zig Ziglar

Do you set goals? What are your goals for the next year? How about 3 years from now? 5 years? 10 years? What are your aspirations in life?

Goal setting is the first step in achieving a goal. This marks your first point to success. It's when we go from a passive state towards life.

Here are 7 reasons why it is important to set goals.

Take control of your life

Many people today are sleepwalking in life. Even if they work hard, they do not feel they get what they want. It's because they do not know where they want to go, what they want to achieve. Students graduate and do not know what to do with their lives. adults work for years and are shocked when they reach their 30s / 40s and they do not know what to do next.

As Bill Copeland says, when you do not set goals, you can spend all your life running without doing anything. In reality, you only realize the goals of others, not yours. The fast-food industry may be telling you to eat fast food because you "love it". This may be the consumer goods industry that tells you that you need this shampoo with a 79% frizz reduction formula because it will make your life better. It can be fashion brands that force you to buy their clothes because you look cool.

When you stop to set goals and think about what you want, you give up the autopilot and start living a conscious creative life. Instead of letting others tell you what to do, you take charge and think about what you want for yourself.

2. Get maximum results

Top performers, world-class athletes, and successful people all set goals. Michael Phelps (most decorated swimmer and Olympian of all time), Kobe Bryant (NBA star), Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook co-founder), Richard Branson (business magnate) and Elon Musk (CEO of SpaceX and Telsa Motors ), all Set goals. This is because when you set goals, you have the vision to follow. You make sure that you strive for the best results instead of resting on your laurels and waiting for things to happen.

Know that what is measured is improved. If you do not set goals or specific milestones, how are things going to improve? There is literally nothing to work towards, and even if you work hard, your hard work may not translate into anything. As the popular saying goes: "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss it, you will land among the stars. When you set goals, you aim for the moon. Your goals push you to take more action than you would otherwise have.

What do you want to see in a year? How about 3 years from now? 5 years? When you set goals, you think about the future, after which you can create your action plan. Even if things do not go according to plan, you can revise them, adjust them, and then direct your life towards your vision.

Know that all things are created twice: first in the mind, then in the physical world. Mental creation occurs when you set your goals. Physical creation occurs when you work toward your goal and give it to life. Without mental creation, physical creation cannot happen. When you set goals, you start the very first step to realize your dreams, after which the next steps will follow.

3. creates the laser focus

Goals give you concentration. While a goal of life gives you a general direction, your goals focus on laser what to spend your time and energy on.

Suppose you set yourself the goal of creating a pastry business. Even if you do not know how to get there, the very act of setting a goal gives you a focus. When thinking about ideas, you realize that you can start by studying the local pastry market and pastry brands. Understand the pastries that people like. Then take cooking classes to master your skills. At the same time, test recipes and let your friends taste your creations before selling them.

Think of your energy as input and the results as an output. When you have a goal, you create a central point where your energy can be channeled to create a maximum reward. For example, a goal of 5,000 visitors/day on your blog helps you prioritize and identify the most important tasks to achieve this traffic goal while eliminating low-value tasks that do not contribute to this vision. Ditto for an objective like reaching a right A - here you define the key steps to get the best grades, such as choosing the best combination of classes to get the best grades, studying the exams of the year previous, consult with your teachers and have a schedule, while eliminating time-consuming tasks such as excessive use of social media and breathtaking TV shows. This creates a maximum of results.

4. Creates responsibility

Having goals makes you responsible. Rather than just talking, you are now forced to act.

This responsibility is the responsibility to yourself, not to others. Nobody knows what goals you have set for yourself. People do not have to win even if you reach your goals. By setting specific goals, you can easily see if you are on the right track and, if not, what to do about it.

When I started my blog, Personal Excellence, a few years ago, I set myself goals: to finish a certain number of articles a week, to reach a certain goal of traffic a week and to get a certain number of clients per month. It made me responsible for those goals. Every week, I watched my performances while working on my plan. If I found myself up to it, I would take the necessary steps to fix it. I would split my tasks from quadrant 4 (lost time) and identify 80/20 actions to achieve my goals. It helped me grow my blog very quickly and in one year I was able to turn my passion into a full-time career.

5. motivates you

When you set goals, you connect to your deepest desires. They help motivate you and give you a goal to reach. This is particularly effective if you are not in the right place in life right now: your goals remind you of what you love, divert your attention from negative obstacles and reconnect with your deepest desires.

To quote Henry Ford, "Obstacles are those scary things you see when you turn away from your goal." When you feel negative and depressed, it's often because you feel that you have nothing that is worthwhile to wait. Your goals are the rainbow to reach, to push you out of the storm.

If I lose my motivation, I will meditate and focus on some of the most important goals of my life, such as all the people I want to reach and help in the world. I would visualize the scenario with total clarity as if it were happening now. It connects me right away with my inner self as I remember my WHY (my deepest motivation), after which I will feel stimulated and get to work immediately.

6. Be the best you can

Goals help you reach your highest potential. Without goals, you move to an activity routine that allows you to feel safe and comfortable every day. But this familiarity is the enemy of growth. It stops you from growing up. This prevents you from tapping into your infinite potential.

By setting goals, you set goals. These goals make you venture into new places and new situations that put you in growth mode. They make you stretch beyond your personality and reach new heights. For example, setting a time limit for your race lets you know if you should run faster. Defining a weight loss goal helps you know if your actions have been effective in losing weight. Setting a career goal ensures that you do not settle for less than what you want.

7. Live your best life

Last but not least, the goals allow you to make the most of your life.

Whether you like it or not, time will pass in your life. In a year you will have 1 more year. In 5 years, you will be 5 years older. Objectives with precise measurements and deadlines allow you to optimize your experience on Earth. If you have already discovered the purpose of your life, your goals will help you make the most of your goal.

Imagine this: the world is your oyster. You can make millions, billions of things, live experiences and meet people. There are infinite possibilities of what you can accomplish. And if you can do what you want? What do you want to accomplish? What do you want to see, do and experience in your life? Set your goals, realize them, and see how you create your best life ever.

Start setting goals

Ask yourself the following question: What are my goals for the next 1, 3, 5 or even 10 years?

If you just take a little time to set your goals now, I can guarantee you that your growth will definitely be stronger as a person. By spending a few minutes expressing certain aspirations that you have in mind, you will make more progress in your life in a year, if you do not.
